Description

A cozy and flavorful Chicken Shawarma served with a creamy garlic sauce and fresh vegetables, perfect for weeknight dinners.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • Pita bread or flatbread, for serving
  • Fresh vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine the cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Add the chicken and coat it with the spice mixture. Drizzle with olive oil and marinate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  2. Mix the minced garlic, yogurt, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt in a separate bowl to make the garlic sauce. Set aside.
  3. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium heat. Cook the marinated chicken for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and golden brown.
  4. Remove the chicken from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
  5. Serve the chicken in pita bread or flatbread, topped with garlic sauce and fresh vegetables.

Notes

Marinate the chicken up to a day in advance for best flavor. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
