Description

A comforting and hearty casserole featuring layers of ground beef, tender potatoes, and gooey cheese, perfect for cozy nights at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (lean, 85/15)
  • 4 medium potatoes (russet or Yukon gold, peeled and sliced thin)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 to 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • Garlic powder (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190 °C).
  2. Place the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, cooking for 7 to 10 minutes until browned and draining excess fat.
  3. Return the skillet to medium heat and add the chopped onion, sautéing for 3 to 4 minutes until translucent.
  4. Sprinkle salt, pepper, and garlic powder over the beef-onion mix, stirring for another minute.
  5. Slice the potatoes as thinly as possible.
  6. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the potato slices, seasoning lightly with salt and pepper.
  7. Spread the beef-onion mix evenly over the potatoes.
  8. Top with the remaining potato slices.
  9. Whisk together milk and melted butter in a small bowl, then pour over the casserole.
  10. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  11. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  12. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 15 to 20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  13. Check doneness with a fork; potatoes should be tender.
  14. Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
