Description
A cozy comfort food classic with tender beef patties and a velvety gravy, perfect for an easy weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (or soy sauce)
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 packet onion soup mix
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 3 tablespoons cold water (optional, for thickening)
Instructions
- Prepare the patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently but thoroughly, forming into four even patties.
- Sear the patties (optional): Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear each side of the patties until golden brown, about 3–4 minutes per side.
- Place in the slow cooker: Transfer the patties to the slow cooker and add the sliced mushrooms on top.
- Mix the sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together beef broth and onion soup mix until well combined. Pour the mixture over the patties and mushrooms.
- Cook low and slow: Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6–8 hours, or on high for 3–4 hours.
- Thicken the sauce (optional): Mix cornstarch with cold water in a small bowl to create a slurry. Stir this into the slow cooker about 30 minutes before serving, letting it cook until thickened.
- Serve: Once done, serve warm over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.
Notes
For a zesty twist, consider adding Dijon mustard or horseradish to the sauce.
