Description

A cozy comfort food classic with tender beef patties and a velvety gravy, perfect for an easy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (or soy sauce)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 3 tablespoons cold water (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently but thoroughly, forming into four even patties.
  2. Sear the patties (optional): Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear each side of the patties until golden brown, about 3–4 minutes per side.
  3. Place in the slow cooker: Transfer the patties to the slow cooker and add the sliced mushrooms on top.
  4. Mix the sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together beef broth and onion soup mix until well combined. Pour the mixture over the patties and mushrooms.
  5. Cook low and slow: Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6–8 hours, or on high for 3–4 hours.
  6. Thicken the sauce (optional): Mix cornstarch with cold water in a small bowl to create a slurry. Stir this into the slow cooker about 30 minutes before serving, letting it cook until thickened.
  7. Serve: Once done, serve warm over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.

Notes

For a zesty twist, consider adding Dijon mustard or horseradish to the sauce.
