Description
A warm and creamy French toast casserole that’s perfect for family gatherings or busy mornings, featuring a delightful cream cheese layer and customizable toppings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 slices of bread (preferably French or Brioche)
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish generously to prevent sticking.
- Cut the bread into cubes, about one inch, and place them neatly in the baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, softened cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until everything is well combined.
- Pour the creamy egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, gently pressing down to ensure all the bread is soaked.
- In another bowl, stir together the brown sugar, flour, and melted butter until crumbly; this will be your delightful topping. Sprinkle this mixture all over the casserole.
- Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 120 minutes or overnight for maximum flavor infusion.
- When you’re ready, bake the casserole uncovered for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.
- Serve warm, and don’t forget the maple syrup or fresh fruit for a finishing touch!
Notes
For a lighter version, substitute whole milk with almond or oat milk. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
