- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish to ensure easy serving.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it becomes a smooth paste. Gradually whisk in the milk until the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar, mozzarella, and parmesan cheeses until melted. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
- Let it cool slightly, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve warm.
Notes
For an added twist, mix in sautéed greens or add a crunchy topping before baking.
