Description
Delightful cherry bars that capture the warmth and nostalgia of the holiday season—perfect for festive gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Batter: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix until well combined. Then, add the softened butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until you achieve a creamy texture that feels like a warm hug.
- Spread the Base: Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking pan. Spread half of the batter evenly across the bottom of the pan. This is going to create a lovely base for our cherry filling.
- Add the Star Ingredient: Spoon the cherry pie filling over the batter, spreading it gently but evenly. Let those luscious ruby cherries shine!
- Top It Off: Add dollops of the remaining batter on top of the cherry filling. Don’t worry if it’s not completely covered; it will bake into a beautiful golden crust.
- Bake to Perfection: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before slicing into squares. A dusting of powdered sugar takes it to the next level of cozy!
Notes
These bars can be made a day in advance and stored in the fridge. They actually taste better the next day!
