Description
A quick and flavorful chicken teriyaki dish perfect for busy weeknights, featuring a savory-sweet marinade that enhances every bite.
Ingredients
Scale
- ¾ lb chicken thighs (or chicken breasts)
- 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 Tablespoon toasted white sesame seeds
- â…“ cup low sodium soy sauce
- â…“ cup mirin
- â…“ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic or ginger (optional)
Instructions
- Prep the chicken: Start by flattening the chicken to about ¾ inch thick and placing it in a zippered bag or bowl.
- Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, mirin, and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Reserve half of this sauce for later and pour the rest over the chicken. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes, or preferably overnight.
- Cook the chicken: Grill for 6-7 minutes per side, pan-fry for 7-8 minutes per side, or bake at 400°F for 20-25 minutes until cooked through.
- Serve: Let the chicken rest before slicing, drizzle with reserved marinade, and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve with rice or veggies.
Notes
Marinate overnight for richer flavor; leftovers can be stored for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
