Description

Delightful fritters made with sourdough discard and fresh apples, perfect for cozy gatherings and family treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 apple, peeled and diced
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Combine the sourdough discard, flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and sugar in a bowl until well blended.
  2. Whisk together the egg and milk in another bowl until smoothly combined.
  3. Gently combine the wet and dry mixtures, then fold in the diced apples.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Drain the fritters on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For variations, try tossing in cinnamon sugar or a maple glaze. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days.
