Description

A comforting Southern dessert featuring sweet peaches and warm spices, perfect for gatherings and family celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups sliced peaches (fresh or canned)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine the sliced peaches, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice in a mixing bowl. Set aside to macerate.
  3. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl. Then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, stirring until well combined.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased baking dish, spreading it evenly to create a delicious base.
  5. Spoon the peach mixture on top of the batter, ensuring it’s distributed evenly across the surface.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  7. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream!

Notes

You can prepare the peach mixture a day in advance. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
